Why have I failed at My New Year’s Resolutions?
New Year’s resolutions are just a fad. And the truth is, most health and wellness programs are taught by people who have never personally struggled with the effects of an unhealthy lifestyle. You need a program that is easy, familiar, and provides immediate results. At The Health Dare, we have first-hand experience with how difficult “getting healthy” can be. Self-motivation is not easy, but we all begin our lives self-motivated to receive food from our mothers, learn to walk, dress ourselves, and grow. Negative experiences, words, and events can damage our self-confidence and steal our desire to motivate ourselves! Negativity and lack of motivation can sabotage us, and cause us to stagnate in our progress, which produces a sense of guilt. The fear of failure becomes a viscous cycle, and can send us on a downward spiral of hopelessness.
Although not all depressed people are sick, many people who struggle with the symptoms of Type II Diabetes, Obesity, and Sleep Apnea also struggle with depression. Thoughts like “I can’t do it, so why should I even try” can create even more unhealthy behaviors, and before we know it, we are struggling with some of the following unhealthy characteristics:
Unhealthy Characteristics
- Frustration
- Embarrassment
- Fatigue
- Uncomfortable
- Low Immune System
- High Blood Pressure
- Depression
- Social Anxiety
- Excessive medications
- Skepticism
- Anger
- Obesity
- Fear
- Unhealthy Work/life balance
- Low self esteem
- Sleeplessness
- Restlessness
- Addiction
We’ve made the Health Dare program easy to follow, because we know how difficult it is to take the first painful steps toward changing your habits and eventually your life. That is why the Health Dare coaching team will surround you with therapists, chefs, nutrition specialists and fitness instructors to help you stay accountable and motivated! In order to begin your journey, you must first understand the psychology and philosophy of motivation.
We are all born with the basic building blocks of the human psyche:
- CONNECTION
At birth, we connect with our mother. As we enter early development, we are accepted by those we love, and we feel loved safe, and secure in our relationships. - CONFIDENCE
As a child grows, he feels invincible and lives in a happy world where he teaches himself to walk, talk, dress, eat, etc. He learns that he is capable of many things, and builds confidence. - COMPETITION
As we enter early childhood and adolescence, we learn to compete with ourselves and others, and learn to problem solve. As we become more and more successful in our daily problem solving, we are motivated to continue rising to new heights of success! As we grow and experience conflict, criticism and compromise, and three building blocks struggle to function at their full potential. - CONNECTION IS MET WITH CONFLICT
The words and actions of others show us that we not accepted by everyone, and affect our self-esteem. When rejection is experienced, either on a small or large scale, it must be processed in a healthy manner. If there is no healthy healing process established, after a series of broken relationships, it can affect our ability to connect with others. - CONFIDENCE IS MET WITH CRITICISM
As we grow, we begin to experience failure, and therefore the criticism of others. The desire to try new things and “conquer” becomes overshadowed by the fear of failure. We must learn to experience failure as a growing experience instead of a negative one. - COMPETITION IS MET WITH COMPROMISE
When adversity enters our lives, we must either overcome it or yield to it. As our confidence crumbles, our resolve to conquer and achieve new goals begins to shrink in the face of failure and fear. This is when we experience the de-motivation phenomenon that leads to the deeper issues of anxiety and depression.
Getting healthy on a physical, cellular level means getting healthy on a psychological level.
Sometimes taking care of others means first taking care of yourself.
This is why The Health Dare has a psychology team of licensed therapists that can help you reach your goals.
